DISTRICT COMMITTEE MEETINGS

LAKES District Committee meetings are held each month at the Acme on Manchester Rd. at 7:00 PM.  ALL Scouters are welcome to attend.  Check the calendar above for the date.

 

COMMISSIONERS MEETING

LAKES District Commissioners will meet the same night and place, but they meet at 6:30 PM before the District Committee (see above)  All Unit Commissioners, ADC’s and RT Commissioners are EXPECTED to attend this meeting.

LAKES DAY CAMP REGISTRATION DEADLINE JUNE 30!!!

August 3               Tiger Day Camp

August 4-6            Cub Day Camp

August 7-9            Webelos Day Camp

 

Finial Registration Deadline JUNE 30   No Late Registrations!!!

 

Please remember that the Day Camp registration forms are due at the Scout Shop by Monday June 30.  Day Camp will be held for Tigers on Sunday August 3rd.  Cub Day Camp will be August 4-6 and Webelos Day Camp will be from August 7-9.  Please remember that we will not take walk-ins at our day camp this year.  The costs are $15 for Tigers (including parents), $35 for Cubs and $40 for Webelos.

 

 

 

The Commodore of the LAKES awards for 2008 are:

 

Ken Butler - Committee Member Troop 118 Ken has been in Scouting for 10 years and has been a great support for Troop 118 and Pack 3118.  He is a Merit Badge counselor, finds great places to camp, a great fundraiser, and will always offer to drive for the Troop.  The everyday operations of the troop run much smoother because of Ken. "If you need a mentor, Ken would be a fine choice."

 

Chuck Haby - Asst. Cub Master/treasurer - Pack 3101 -6 years in scouting Chuck if the level headed, right hand man to the Cubmaster. As treasurer, his accounts are always accurate. He makes a personal effort to get all new leaders trained ASAP.  Chuck has produced a great DVD of the pack and has built and maintained the pack Haunted Hayride display. At the district level, Chuck has been round-up co-chair for recruitment.

 

Greg Kahler - Scoutmaster Troop 336 - 9 years in scouting Greg has been a Den Leader, Webelos Den Leader, and Asst. Cubmaster for Pack 3335. He had been the Asst. Scoutmaster for Troop 336 for 4 years.

Greg has helped and guided 3 of his Webelos to become and Eagle Scout. He has taken the troop to summer camp for the last 4 years and has volunteered countless hours in community service.

 

Monica Kahler - Committee Member/Secretary Troop 336  - 5 years in scouting.

Monica has been the troop secretary for Troop 336 for 4 years. She has aided in all fundraising and volunteered many hours to community service.

In 2007, Monica was on Day Camp staff helping with registration, assisting in the office and aiding the youth staff.

 

Larry Lott - Assistant Scoutmaster Troop 336 - 7 years in scouting.

Larry has been a Den Leader and Webelos leader with Pack 3330 - crossing over his entire den. He is the Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 336. He has been a youth soccer coach for 10 years. He is the newly appointed Cub Training Chair for the lakes district and the adult coordinator for the youth staff at Day Camp last year and this year.  He has also arranged the use of great facilities in Green.

 

Christine Pizzute - Committee Member Pack 3335 - 5 years in scouting.

Christine has been a Tiger Den Leader, Den Leader and Committee Chair for Pack 3335. Christine has run the archery range at Day Camp for the past two years and will continue again this year. She has completed the Camp Range Officer's training to do this.

 

DISTRICT AWARD OF MERIT for 2008:

 

Chris Fahey - Assistant Cubmaster Pack 3215 - Day Camp Director  - Roundtable Commissioner Chris has been the Cubmaster of Pack 3215 for 3 years and the Assistant Cubmaster for 2 years. Chris has been Roundtable  Commissioner for the Cub Scout breakout this past year with Joe Testa. He has earned his Woodbadge beads and has trained at the University of Scouting and the district training team. His Committee chair gives him an A+ rating.  He is the Day Camp Director for 2008. Past Commodore Award winner.

 

Genevieve Lovell - Assistant Scoutmaster - Troop 115 and  NA for Crew 2222.

Genny is the first (and only) Venturer to earn both the Ranger and Silver Awards in the Great Trail Council. She has taken a Crew to Philmont and many other high adventure treks.  She has attended summer camp with Troop 115 for 5 years.  As a youth and an adult, Genny has worked 7 Cub Day Camps, 3 Klondikes, 3 University of Scouting, 2 Venture Leader Trainings, and Outdoor Leader Training, and 2 Venturing Camp Alaska. Genny is also a Merit Badge Counselor and has completed the Woodbadge course and is working her ticket. Past Commodore Award winner.

ROUNDTABLE: (Except June, July, August) 

2nd Thursday of each month at 7:30 at Lockwood United Methodist Church, located just north of the Manchester & State Rd intersection.  Roundtable is a monthly gathering of leaders in the district to share and to learn.  Cub Scout Roundtable presents ideas for your program for the month to follow.

 

 

REMEMBER THAT THE TRAINING IS THE SAME NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO!

(But we have better instructors in LAKES)

 

FAST START TRAINING AVAILABLE ONLINE

Fast Start training is now available online.  Go to the Great Trail Council website: www.gtcbsa.org , on the left of the screen, select Training, under Training Opportunities select the Fast Start icon for the program you are involved with.  When you complete the course, print the completion page and bring it or mail it to the Great Trail Council, BSA, Attn: Registrar, PO Box 68, Akron, OH 44309.

 

YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING FOR LEADERS AVALIABLE ON-LINE

Youth Protection Training is available on the Great Trail Council website: www.gtcbsa.org  Complete the course, fill out the on-line form and your certificate will be available thru the Council office.

 

BSA’s ONLINE TRAINING CENTER

Check out  http://www.olc.scouting.org/  for the new online training center.  Currently there are Fast Start modules for Cub, Boy Scout, and Venture Advisor.  Also, Safety Afloat, Safe Swim Defense, Venture Crew Orientation, and other Supplemental Trainings are available on the site.  There will be more to follow.
